PURPOSE
To rehabilitate street children and give them hope, respect and a future through sports
Our History
In 1978, Father Arnold Grol, approached Samson Lipuka, a well-knwon broadcaster, to start taekwondo classes at
the St, Teresa's Catholic Church. Father Grol had started Udugu Society of Kenya which catered for street children, and felt
that sports could also contribute to the rehabilitation of these unfortunate children.
Thus history was made. Lipuka
had on many occasions publicised the activities of Undugu Society of Kenya. The club later contributed to the establishement
and spread of taekwondo in Kenya, when many of the students formed their own clubs.
One of the students, who joined
the club while still in school and later joined the Kenya Air Force was Fredrick Wambua. Wambua started the Air Force taekwondo
club, which expended to other units of the Armed Forces. Today, Wambua is in the United States of America and operates a club
under the name Wambua's Martial Arts Academy.
Onother was Wicliffe Andove. Andove joined Samson Lipuka through his
school club at City High School in Nairobi, and later joined Lipuka, first at Kenya Utalii College and then Udungu Taekwondo
Club. When The Kenya Police wanted to establish a taekwondo club, Andove was among the 14 students under Lipuka who were recruited.
Andove is now a senior Officer at the para-military General Service Unit Training College in charge of Taekwondo. Andove participated
in many international competitions including the World Championships, the African Games, the Al Fajir in Iran and many others.
The first ever gold medal ever won by Kenya in an international championship was won by a student of Undugu Taekwondo
Club, John Kariuki.
